As a Senior Staff Accountant in the Assurance Department, you will primarily focus on audits for various organizations, with a strong emphasis on nonprofit agencies. You will collaborate effectively with both internal team members and external clients, taking on a leadership role in client-facing interactions. This position is ideal for someone who is eager to build technical accounting expertise in audit and assurance practices while contributing to the development of Staff Accountants through coaching and guidance.
What You’ll Do
- Lead audits for a range of organizations, particularly nonprofit clients
- Serve as the main point of contact for external clients while collaborating with internal team members
- Develop and refine technical accounting and audit skills
- Provide guidance and coaching to Staff Accountants, fostering a collaborative team environment
- Work under close supervision while growing into a leadership role
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops expertise in auditing best practices and refines skills in assurance services
- Cultivates consulting skills by understanding client businesses and identifies opportunities for improvement
- Applies technical knowledge and research to offer client-related recommendations
- Communicates staff performance to management on a regular basis
- Provides input on improving firm-wide systems and process to appropriate personnel
- Manages personal performance expectations while mentoring staff to meet individual goals and standards
- Organizes project activities and ensures tasks are completed within project scope and budget
- Begins to perform detailed review of the team’s work to ensure quality and thoroughness and completion of assignment tasks within agreed timeframes
- Complete other related duties as designated by senior team members
What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with strong attention to detail
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong client-facing communication skills with an emphasis on customer service
- Well-organized and with the ability to work efficiently and prioritize appropriately
- Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or experience in a related field required
- 2-4 years of accounting experience, ideally in an assurance or audit capacity
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree or related certifications highly preferred
- CPA licensed or qualified candidate
