About the Opportunity

McDonald Jacobs welcomes interest from experienced assurance professionals who would like to be considered for current or future Assurance Supervising Senior opportunities.

As an Assurance Supervising Senior, you will monitor assurance engagements from start to completion, serving as a primary resource for assigned client areas and internal team members. This role reviews staff and senior-prepared work for accuracy and compliance, provides constructive feedback, and independently troubleshoots technical and project roadblocks. This includes consulting with Managers and Shareholders as needed.

The Assurance Supervising Senior mentors and coaches team members, supports resource planning and workflow, and models inclusive leadership while upholding the firm’s Quality Management System and client service standards.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee the progression of assurance engagements and ensure timely, accurate, high-quality deliverables.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for assigned client areas; maintain regular communication and address questions and concerns.
  • Provide detailed review and actionable feedback on staff and senior work; ensure compliance with firm and professional standards.
  • Research and resolve complex technical issues; escalate risks appropriately.
  • Mentor and coach staff and seniors, fostering technical growth and adherence to firm quality standards.
  • Support managers by communicating emerging client needs and helping define project objectives.
  • Model inclusive leadership and equitable practices across the team.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor task progress; follow up with team members to keep work on time and within scope.
  • Develop work plans, allocate responsibilities, and ensure equitable workload distribution.
  • Review portions of work performed by staff/seniors for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to firm standards before manager review.
  • Independently research complex technical issues and provide guidance to team members.
  • Assist in resource planning; help engagements stay within scope and budget.
  • Identify early signs of client dissatisfaction; collaborate with managers to address concerns.
  • Participate in client meetings when appropriate; help structure problems and contribute practical solutions.
  • Recognize potential business development opportunities during engagements and communicate insights to managers.
  • Foster open communication, collaboration, and an inclusive environment; reinforce the firm’s Quality Management System in all work.

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • 4–6 years of accounting experience, ideally in public accounting.
  • Advanced technical competence in audit and assurance standards, with a focus on nonprofit organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proven experience mentoring and coaching staff.
  • Well-organized and efficient; strong prioritization skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and relevant assurance preparation software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CPA licensure preferred.
  • CPA licensed or qualified candidate (active licensure preferred).
