About the Opportunity
McDonald Jacobs welcomes interest from experienced tax professionals who would like to be considered for current or future Tax Manager opportunities.
As a Tax Manager, you would oversee a variety of tax engagements for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and nonprofit organizations. You would work closely with clients and internal teams to provide high-quality tax compliance, planning, and advisory services while helping guide and develop staff and senior staff members.
This role is well suited for someone who combines strong technical tax knowledge with effective project management, leadership, and client relationship skills.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and oversee tax engagements, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality completion of tax returns
- Lead and mentor teams, providing guidance to staff and senior staff members on complex tax matters
- Serve as a key client contact, offering strategic tax advice and guidance on tax planning
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations
- Contribute to continuous improvement and the growth of the firm through successful project completion
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborates with a dedicated team of professionals to provide high-level tax services to a variety of clients, including individuals, corporations, partnerships, and nonprofit organizations
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of tax regulations, laws, and emerging trends to ensure compliance
- Communicates directly with clients, ensuring deadlines are met, tax filings are accurate and complete, and advises tax planning strategies to optimize tax outcomes
- Manages and directs tax engagements, including the preparation and review of tax returns
- Reviews a variety of complex tax returns for individuals and organizations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws
- Works with department and firm leadership to stay current with industry changes and drive continuous improvement in the tax department
- Provides mentorship and coaching to staff and senior staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment
- Demonstrates strong project management skills by managing multiple tax engagements simultaneously within deadlines and budgets
What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications
- CPA certification
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or experience in a related field required (Associate’s degree or related certifications highly preferred)
- Minimum 6 years of accounting experience, ideally in a tax services role
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in client-facing situations
- Well-organized and with the ability to work efficiently and prioritize appropriately
- The ability to collaborate with others as part of a high-performing team
- Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and other tax preparation software’s
- 1-2 years of management experience preferred
